OUR MISSION
WarriorWOD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. EIN 87-1065126. Founded 2021. Charleston, SC.
WarriorWOD Foundation combines exercise, nutrition, and mentorship in a research-backed, results-driven recovery program for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideations, and substance abuse.
Recovery is not a prescription. It is not a 30-minute appointment. But that is what most veterans get when they come home. Too many lose ground because of it. WarriorWOD was founded in 2021 to provide what the system could not: six months of structure, a peer who walks the road with you, and the time recovery actually takes.

THE OUTCOMES ARE DOCUMENTED.
90.4% of participants experience a reduction in PTSD symptoms, with an average 14.42-point drop in PCL-5 scores, verified by an independent College of Charleston study (Trejo Tello, 2025; p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.33). Post-program scores fall below the clinical threshold for probable PTSD.

WHAT IS WARRIORWOD
WarriorWOD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit running a structured 6-month veteran PTSD recovery program for veterans with post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideations, and substance abuse. Acceptance is application-based, and the program is fully donor-funded, so eligible veterans pay nothing to participate.
Debilitating PTSD symptoms, depression, chronic stress, social isolation, substance abuse, and the growing risk of suicide are all too common for those carrying invisible wounds.
What is the WarriorWOD Veteran PTSD Recovery Program?
Our six-month recovery program is built on three research-backed pillars to address both the physical and psychological aspects of post-traumatic stress.
01
EXERCISE
Choice of exercise modality
Regular physical activity reduces stress hormones, improves emotional regulation, and encourages neuroplasticity. Physical activity is 1.5x more effective than medication for depression and anxiety (Singh et al., 2023, British Journal of Sports Medicine). Warriors attend the gym of their choice at least twice each week through our network of 40+ partner gyms.

02
NUTRITION
Bi-weekly nutrition coaching
Veterans meet biweekly with certified nutrition coaches over 6 months — 12 sessions total. Poor diet increases depression risk by 41% (Ljungberg et al., 2020). Stable nutrition stabilizes mood, sleep, and recovery.

Increased depression risk from poor diet
03
MENTORSHIP
Paired with a veteran Battle Buddy
Each Warrior is paired with a Battle Buddy — a fellow veteran who understands the path firsthand. Battle Buddies provide empathy, accountability, and weekly contact. Veterans with peer mentors show 35% greater PTS symptom reduction than those without (Tsai et al., 2016, Psychiatric Services).
Outcomes measured using the PCL-5 and the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Independently validated by Dr. Katie Trejo Tello, College of Charleston (2025). Ongoing research partnerships with MUSC and Kingston University London.
