What an amazing young woman!
I am grateful for Emma Grace Mather. She has used her passion for racing to advocate for suicide awareness. I am proud that Emma has decided to add WarriorWOD to her amazing mission.
Emma is 15 yrs old and will be a sophomore high school student next year. Emma became interested in racing when her cousin Jonathan Hartman started racing after losing his brother, Brandon, to suicide. Chris Hartman, a dad who tries to give his daughter the tools to help her succeed, started looking for a car. Emma and Chris decided on a 2003 Cavalier that would fit her well in the junior sport compact division. The car was about 75% done, but just had to get the car up to I-35 track rules. Emma worked on the car with Chris, getting the brakes finished and the racing seat mounted for her size and getting the car’s overall design and graphics picked out. That’s when she came up with the suicide awareness to help get the word out. Chris and Emma discussed how suicide awareness comes in different forms and talked about how WarriorWOD’s mission is to prevent veteran suicide and bring awareness to the issue.
Emma came out strong in her first race, pushing her car to the breaking point and popping a tire, but she has been improving and trying to get past her being scared and being a competitor in a guys’ sport.
Emma, you are an amazing woman and are truly impacting the world in a positive way.
