Row Against the Tide Marathon: Save Veterans’ Lives | WarriorWOD



Event Overview: Row Against the Tide Marathon is a community-based event created to empower participants to row marathons! Participants can choose to row their 42,195 meters individually or in teams of 2 or 4. We offer both in-person and virtual participation options, making this a global opportunity to support WarriorWOD’s mission.

  • Location: Iron Bridge Crossfit, 1935 Belgrade Ave, Charleston, SC 29407
  • Time: 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM CST

Requirements for Participation:

  • All participants must register in advance
  • Registration fee includes an Event T-shirt
  • Participate as an Individual, 2-Person Team or 4-Person Team
  • Rowing experience is not mandatory, but teams are encouraged to practice before the event
  • Bring your own towel, and water bottle, and wear comfortable athletic attire

Fundraising Impact: At the heart of this event is giving back to our Veterans. All funds raised directly support WarriorWOD’s “Exercise as an RX” program, which prioritizes exercise, nutrition, and mentorship as prescriptions for veterans’ recovery from post-traumatic stress and suicidal ideations.  Learn more about our program at

  • Gym Sponsorship:
    Provides a 6-month gym membership to veterans in the fitness modality of their choice. This gives veterans a supportive community and a structured fitness regimen.
  • Nutrition Coaching:
    Offers bi-weekly meetings with a Certified Nutritionist to improve veterans’ dietary habits, helping them achieve better health and performance.
  • Battle Buddy Mentorship:
    Veterans are paired with a “Battle Buddy,” a mentor who meets them bi-weekly to foster accountability, motivation, and ownership, resulting in a 29% improvement in PTSD symptoms.
  • Impact of Your Contribution:
    • $25: Covers one nutrition coaching session
    • $50: Provides a week of gym membership for a veteran
    • $100: Supports two weeks of Battle Buddy mentorship sessions
    • $250: Sponsors a full month of WarriorWOD programs for a veteran

Our fundraising goal this year is $10,000 or more! Prizes will be given out to top fundraisers to create a lasting impact on our community.

Virtual Participation Details: Can’t join us in person? No problem! Our virtual event option lets you participate from anywhere in the world. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Equipment Needed:
    • Concept2 rowing machine or equivalent
    • Towel, water bottle, and snacks
    • Access to a device for tracking your progress (e.g., phone, tablet)
  • Virtual Participation Guidelines:
    • Register online and select the virtual option
    • Form a team or row solo
    • Complete the 42,195 meters on your rowing machine at any time on September 21, 2024
    • Share your progress and achievement on social media using the hashtag #RowAgainstTheTideMarathon #WarriorWOD
    • Submit your completion time and fundraising amount via the online portal
  • Sample Training Guide:
    4-Week Rowing Training PlanWeek 1:

    • Day 1: Warm-up 5 minutes, Row 5 x 1,500 meters, Rest 2 minutes between intervals
    • Day 2: Warm-up 5 minutes, Steady-state row for 40 minutes at moderate pace
    • Day 3: Warm-up 5 minutes, Row 4 x 2,000 meters, Rest 3 minutes between intervals
    • Day 4: Rest or light activity (walking/yoga)
    • Day 5: Warm-up 5 minutes, Row 2 x 5,000 meters, Rest 4 minutes between intervals
    • Day 6: Warm-up 5 minutes, Steady-state row for 60 minutes at easy pace
    • Day 7: Rest

    Week 2:
    Similar to Week 1, but increase the intensity slightly and add 500 meters to each interval workout.

    Week 3:
    Similar to Week 2, but increase the number of intervals by one for each workout.

    Week 4:
    Taper week, reducing workout lengths by 25% to allow for recovery before the event day.
